The tour started with a drive from Hannover to Amsterdam to catch the ferry from Ijmuiden to Newcastle. The car was left at the harbour at Ijmuiden.

  The cycle route was Newcastle to Oban. The return from Oban to Newcastle was by train via Glasgow.
